Budget route, with a view: Public Transit - Costa Rica’s MEPE bus route | 6hours
From SJO Airport, take a taxi to the downtown San Jose Mepe bus station: 45-90minutes depending on day/time of travel. Buses run every couple hours, it is suggested to purchase your ticket a day in advance, or at least 4 hours. - 6 hour bus ride through jungle mountains to the south Caribbean side of CR. The last bus stop is for Puerto Viejo, the incredible caribbean town outside of Manzanillo, where the sancuary is located. Once you land in Puerto Viejo, you can take a second bus for the 30minute trip to the sancuarty- this bus till drop you off a 5minute walk from the sancuarty ($3USD) or you can take a taxi directly to the sancuary ($18USD).
IMPORTANT Friday, Saturday and Sunday travels: add one hour to travel time, it is HIGHLY recommended to take the earliest bus into Puerto Viejo. Buses run every few hours. All guests are highly encouraged to arrive prior to 5pm/sunset.
